Description:
May be colorless, yellow, brown,
blue, or green. Crystals are prismatic, encrusting. Topaz occurs
in acid igneous rocks. Mystic Fire Topaz (second Picture) is
created with dye and heat. Not to be confused with Quartz, which
is a softer crystal.

Legends and
Folklore:
In ancient cultures this stone
was dedicated to Apollo, the Sun deity. It was considered the
"stone of strength" among many and it was believed that the
stone lost color in the presence of poison. Yellow topaz was
worn for health and wisdom. The Romans wore it for protection
during travel. From the 4th-6th centuries, topaz was considered
to be an antidote for rabies. During the Middle Ages it was used
to cure ailing eyesight. |
