Healing Properties:

It has been used for centuries to stop the flow of blood. Considered to relieve menstrual cramps as well. Promotes creativity and passion, and suppresses feelings of jealousy.

It is connected to the sign of Leo and is the birthstone of Aries. The stone of the August Moon.

Strengthens body and mind, and relieves lower back pain.

Legends and Folklore:

There were many ancient beliefs associated with this stone of which many centered around protection during travels after death and against evil. It is also believed to combat bad tempers. The name is said to be derived from the Latin word "Carnis" which means flesh due to it's color. Some believed in the old Roman times that the darker Carnelian represented males and the lighter, females. Many believe that it creates a bond with man and nature.
