A little something on Emeralds...
As the birthstone for May, the Emerald, a symbol of rebirth, is believed to grant the owner foresight, good fortune, and youth. The word Emerald is derived from the word “(s)maragdos,” means, quite literally, “green” in Greek. Like Aquamarine, Emerald is a variety of Beryl, a mineral that grows in a six-sided crystal form and can be up to a foot in length.
Emerald, often coveted by royalty since time immemorial, is the birthstone for those born in the month of May. Its shimmering hues of green symbolize renewal of life and revitalization, akin to the verdant hues of the Spring season that reaches its peak in the month of May.
As spring in the Northern Hemisphere occurs in May, the Emerald stands for a time of rebirth and growth. The French refer to the Emerald’s inclusions* and fractures as “Jardins”, translated as gardens, resembling the color of spring foliage.
